Eagles Gameday Traditions

Emma Chrismer (283)

Everyone has a game-day tradition whether they like it or not. Although they may not be as extreme as painting your whole body the color of their team or not washing your lucky jersey, most people have superstitions they do not even notice. Philadelphia Eagles fans certainly fit the latter as they are the fifth most superstitious fan base in the NFL, according to CBS. So, to see just how superstitious Philly fans are, I interviewed three die-hard Eagles fans from Central.

When asked how long they have been fans of the birds, both Cierra Lyles (283) and Peter Frankunas (283) said since birth. Peter states “That’s the only possible answer when born in Philly…If you are not, you are to be disowned by the city [and] it’s in our blood.” In addition to agreeing on being Philly sports’ biggest fans, Peter and Cierra shared similar game-day traditions: wearing their gear. Peter puts on his Kelly Green shoes in the morning, and waits for an hour until kick-off to put on his fresh Kelly Green Kelce jersey. For Cierra, it’s blue cotton shorts, a jersey, and Nike socks.

But the superstitions do not stop there. On top of the hundreds of student Eagles devotees, there are even bigger faculty fans such as Mr. Kannengieszer. Mr. Kannengieszer lives by three basic rules: play the Eagles fight song on blast in the car for all to hear, sit in the same spot on the couch in his living room, and of course, eat pizza.

Although not everyone is as hard-core as Peter, Cierra, and Mr. Kannengieszer, each and every Eagles fan has some sort of game-day tradition they need to uphold if the Birds are going to come out victorious. Let’s just hope it’s not like Charlie Day from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia because a leg in a bear trap for a week is a painful price to pay for the win.
