Central Disc Heads, Central High School’s ultimate frisbee team, has faced a major setback entering the 2025-26 school year. After Mr. Walker, the team’s most recent sponsor and former Physics teacher at Central and former Physics teacher at Central, moved to a new school over the summer, the team has been unable to meet or hold practices. The team’s president, Kala Ramji-Nogales (285), has been working alongside her cabinet to reach out to teachers to try and find a new sponsor. Ms. Whittle, English teacher and sponsor of the Student Association, has been very helpful and lenient towards the team’s struggles, even reaching out to them with a list of potential sponsors. Unfortunately, no teacher they have asked has been able to take on the responsibility of sponsoring the club—the commitment is three days a week, including the occasional weekend game. Usually, the frisbee season is both fall and spring, with the fall season being reserved for practices and the spring season for holding the competitions. However, due to the sponsor search, they have been unable to hold practice this fall. Nevertheless, the team is excited and eager for the spring season to begin. “I can’t wait to get practice started. I can’t wait to meet the new coaches!” exclaimed Orin Rossos (286), the team’s secretary. In the past, Mr. Walker had been both the sponsor and the coach. However, the new sponsor would only have to supervise the practices and the competitions. Mr. Walker and/or a graduated Disc Head will be returning to coach the team, alongside the student coach elected in the beginning of the spring season. “We’re really hoping for spring to be on our feet and frisbeeing it up!” said Kala, determined to find a sponsor. So, if there are any teachers out there who would be interested in sponsoring a sport in need, let Kala or Orin know!
