As students, we all know the feeling of walking into a bleak, boring classroom and counting down the minutes until the period ends. Some rooms have little to no excitement or life. Yet, there is always that one class where the environment is happier, where there are posters on the walls, and everything just feels brighter. Classrooms like this allow students to feel more welcome and excited for class. So, where do we see this at Central?
One thing is for sure the art and design rooms can definitely help to brighten your day. Student work is hung all over and color is everywhere. The art rooms bring life to the basement, but there are still three other floors at Central.
Sienna Kang (288), when asked about which of her classes she felt has the best classroom environment, said that Mr. Humes’, her world history class, was one of her favorites. Sienna said, “The poster and maps help a lot when the teacher talks and asks about geography.” She also emphasized that the classroom had a “relaxed” and “fun” atmosphere. Another student, Mirabella Beale (288), talked about how Ms. Woodward’s room has fairy lights and a lot of decorations. She also added that “it has a space for you to sit if you want to be alone and decompress.” Both of these students enjoyed the fact that they could be relaxed in these classes and felt that the spaces had the resources they needed.
Laura Casas (286) said that her favorite classroom was Ms. Date’s room. When asked about why she liked the space the best, Laura highlighted that, “The desks are arranged in a way for everyone to see.” She also added that the temperature was the most comfortable, and it was the most welcoming room.
When hearing about the different classrooms and the features that made them appealing, it was obvious that students want a classroom where it isn’t just desks and a smartboard. They want to have a space where they can feel relaxed and comfortable. These are just a few examples of good classroom environments, and there are many more classrooms throughout Central that have different features and decorations to uplift the space as well.
