The transition from summer to autumn can be one of the most difficult changes of the year. In just a few weeks, students can go from relaxing at the beach to staying up all night to cram for their first math test. A simple way to ease the pain of this jump is to attempt to “romanticize” your studying. We’ve all seen the inspirational TikToks using Gilmore Girls’ character Rory Gilmore as “study-spo” and giving study tips, but this isn’t always enough.
To truly romanticize your studying, you must start in a location that will inspire you to want to learn. These three locations can serve as the perfect places for this desire. (1) Coffee shop: a classic. A coffee shop is the perfect place to go and grab a coffee with your friends, put your headphones on, and ‘lock in.’ Some options are: Char & Stave (Chestnut Hill), Capitol One Cafe (Center City), and any La Colombe. The specific cafe doesn’t actually matter that much; there are hundreds of coffee shops in Philly, so there’s guaranteed to be one near wherever you may be.
(2) Libraries: Supporting Philadelphia’s free libraries is very important. The city has 53 neighborhood libraries, making them very accessible to anyone interested. For an even more aesthetically enriching experience, you could even go to the gigantic free library in Center City. Central’s own Barnwell Library is another amazing spot for studying before school, during your lunch, or after school until 4:15. Aside from the aesthetic factors of these libraries, they are also great tools for research. Most librarians go through immense training and can help you find almost anything, whether it be online, a book, or just an answer to a question.
(3) Other places around Central: Besides the library, you can go to the second-floor alcove, one of Central’s lawns, or even any quiet hallway.
If you’re starting to feel a slump coming on, just remember these spots, and hopefully it should be cured.
