It’s that time of year–a Google Form is sent to six hundred eager seniors ready to vote on which of the predetermined titles is bestowed upon their peers. While some ignore the custom, others flock to social media and fill the halls to stake their claim on what they believe is their authentic title as “Best Dressed Senior of Central High School.” It’s a competition rooted in the most honorable tradition, the reward not being the journey to authenticity, but of reigning supreme in rightfully receiving the most votes in the “Most Likely to Be Late to Graduation” category.

Although students have the upper hand with the use of social media platforms like Instagram, teachers have not been disadvantaged. These accomplished scholars have used their degrees to campaign against their peers and it has not been easy. This grueling undertaking was an uphill battle as teachers lobbied in the halls, with some Advanced Placement literature teachers even being smart enough to use class time to rally for their title (an honor they believed was deserved over twenty years ago).

One anonymous student reported hearing their teacher say, “Um, I don’t agree that I should be Most Sassiest, but you all better vote me.’’

Inspired by their 2nd Period AP Biology teacher’s important announcement, student rushed to the 284 page to complete the form.

To those who weren’t nominated, will you ever get on Pinterest and learn to dress? Are you even friends if you didn’t win Best Duo? Whether one wins or loses, everyone knows it isn’t what you think of yourself that matters, but what others think of you.
