Romance movies; the genre of cliches, tropes, and warm fuzzy feelings that pull at your heartstrings. Love it or not, romance really shines the brightest this time of year. So, in honor of the season of love, here’s some of the best movies. Perfect for you and a significant other–or  even the single hopeless romantic. There’s something for everyone!

First up, The Notebook. Set in 1940, a rich girl hopelessly falls for a poor guy. However, her parents don’t approve of their relationship. They face many challenges that try to keep them apart–but love conquers all. This movie is tender and timeless. One fan raved, “This movie literally is perfect. It showcases what true love is and what love can look like. It makes me cry every time I watch it. To me it embodies the idea that if you love someone you never stop loving them.” (Savanna Keenan 285). If romance with a nice side of drama, and tears is appealing, then this is perfect for you.

Next up, 10 Things I Hate About You. This teen rom-com adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Taming of The Shrew” follows the witty and sarcastic Kat Stratford, who gets asked out by Patrick, the ‘bad boy’ of the school. Unexpectedly, they genuinely click. Except there’s one issue, he’s only interested in her because of a bribe. Simply put, it’s full of banter, and has iconic moments like Heath Ledger’s serenade, and Julia Stiles’s confessional poem delivered.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. Being one of the most recently released on this list, this film offers a twist to the fake-dating turned real-dating trope. Laura Jean Covey writes love letters to all of her crushes–with the full intent of never having them sent. Secretly, her younger sister mails them off to each guy, and Laura’s world gets turned upside down. This is a cute, cozy, story that will have you smiling–and at times cringing a little. It’s realistic with its depictions of navigating life as a teenager. When asking students what they loved about this movie, many replied the same way. Expressing, “It’s corny, but it hits” (Anonymous 285). If you like it enough, there’s also the books and two other movies to the franchise to indulge in!

Finally, How to Lose a Guy in 10 days: This romantic comedy follows magazine writer Andi Anderson, who comes up with a new and unique idea for her column. She plans to make a guy fall for her, then completely drives him away as an ultimate dating experiment. Her victim? Ben Barry, who unbeknownst to Andy, only gets involved with her to fulfill a bet to make a woman fall in love with him–all for the sake of his job too. This charming and mischievous movie has characters with great chemistry and humorous moments, making it a lovely watch.

Hopefully, you’ll find a favorite among this list. Happy Watching!
