Love is in the air at Central High School, or at least, it’s trying to get there, tangled up in a web of nauseatingly sweet chocolates and pink hearts that haunt every hallway. These days, the phrase “love is dead” is thrown around casually, especially since “ghosting” and the infamous “talking stages” have taken the place of good ol’ fashion courtship. Whatever happened to the charming tradition of hearing “Will you be my Valentine?” followed by a comically oversized teddy bear and a box of candy hearts that could break a tooth?
Not to worry–Central High has got this generation’s hopeless romantics covered. Forget waiting for that follow back on Instagram, because nothing says “true love” quite like five students in red sweaters and cupid headbands, serenading you in the middle of a test. Yes, you read that correctly: Valentine’s singing grams are here to save this cherished holiday. With everything from Beiber’s Baby to smooth stylings of Sinatra, these choir kids know how to set the mood–even if they’re standing in front of a class full of thirty deadpanned students who look like they’d rather be anywhere else.
It’s all worth it, though–especially for the bargain price of five dollars. A once-in-a-lifetime deal, some might say. The tension is real as these brave souls shuffle into the classroom, wide smiles plastered on their faces, ready to point you–yes, you, the one with fear in your eyes–out of the crowd. The Valentine’s grams at Central aren’t merely a tradition–they’re a mission. Bringing love back into high school, one awkward serenade at a time. Whether it’s partner to partner, friend to friend, enemy to lover, or perhaps forbidden romance (we see you, Romeo and Juliet), this Valentine’s Day at Central wouldn’t be complete without the sweet harmonies of the choir invading your 9:30 AM math test. Love is alive, people, and it’s coming right to you via musical flashmob interruption.
