Kamera Osborne and Mais Ali (284)

This November 4th capped off Central’s annual tradition of bringing the school community together through a glamorous party! Homecoming is a night full of dancing with friends, eating delicious food, and most importantly, serving fashion for the ages! Whether it’s moving your body to trendy tunes or taking a million photos at the booth, one can’t deny the pull of showcasing an amazing outfit. Several homecoming court nominees were interviewed to get the deepest look into how they crafted their perfect look. These classic Met Gala questions set the tone for the interview. Whether it’s directly shipped, thrifted, or borrowed, every outfit needs its time to shine.

  1. “Who” Are You Wearing?

The Homecoming Royalty winner Lena Johnson (284) stunned in a short, black dress adorned with silver rhinestones from XO Formals. Just like the name, we loved the attire! Then Naja Abdul-Wakeel (284) explained she borrowed her gorgeous emerald green dress from her mother’s closet. With a funny twist, Aleanna Ramos (284) breathed life into her black dress by stating, “I call her Sharon, and she is thrifted.” Finally, Kalani Pierre (284)  added that his suit was from the Fashion District, a classic staple many are familiar with.

  1. How Long Have You Had This Outfit Planned?

Another key part of planning the right fit is timing. Some take hours, others days; the exact period is up to opinion. Naja planned “a week and a half, and pretty last minute.” For Kalani, it was “a solid month and a half.” Lena said it was “a few seconds before trying on the dress” because of a consultant’s expert fashion eye. For Aleanna, the dress was a “day-of decision” due to ditching her initial pick of a beige dress.

  1. Any Outside Inspiration For Your Outfit such as Pinterest, or TikTok?

Many go to social media for inspiration and to get the creative juices flowing, or they solo the process. These nominees implored similar techniques to capture the vibe they wanted for their looks  Lena, studied using “TikTok research.” Aleanna illustrated her talents by commenting that the look was inspired and influenced by herself. Kalani “thought of the ‘fit and it just worked.” Finally, Naja, “just saw the dress and wanted to wear it.” Regardless of the process, every look perfectly embodies the wearer’s vision!

  1. What Are Some Accessories You’re Wearing?

An outfit is never complete without some accessories to compliment the look. Lena’s mother gave her gorgeous, dangling, and dainty silver jewelry. Naja wore a beady tiny necklace, long earrings, and a long gold purse which complimented her green dress amazingly. Aleanna wore a bold gold necklace that contrasted excellently with her simple dress. Kalani tried a different approach, appearing with a lack of accessories to further emphasize his facial features.
