On December 15th at 8:15 a.m. seventy new students were inducted into the Barnwell chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS). Ms. Harrington and Mr. Hover, along with Central’s orchestra, welcomed the inductees. In their opening speeches, they discussed the four pillars that the NHS is built on: character, scholarship, leadership, and service. These four elements are also extremely prevalent in these students’ lives at Central which they’ve been building upon since freshman year.
Amelia Nelson (284), one of the inductees, wrote about her experience at the induction. “I was recently inducted into Central’s Barnwell Honors Society, the result of a lot of hard work. I loved walking into the auditorium and seeing my friends and classmates, people who were also getting to see their dedication pay off, wearing their best outfits and looking excited. My ironed black dress and shoes picked to match perfectly helped the induction, something I had aimed for since freshman year[…]my friends and I felt similarly about designing a memorable outfit to commemorate the memorable day. Overall, I think that the NHS will provide me with more opportunities to help out my community and give me the motivation to do so. It was exciting to be inducted, but now I’m ready for the next two years.”
Amelia and I got the opportunity to also speak with the 283rd chapter’s president, Samantha Sandhaus, who was “happy and proud to keep rolling through with [the] NHS’s initiatives and excited to see what this next class will contribute to the four pillars!” We too are excited to see what the future of the National Honor Society holds and will bring to Central. Congratulations to all who were inducted!
