As the fall season comes to an end, winter sports are in full swing at Central High School. The Central High School Swim Team, led by Captains Samat Abulgaziev (283), Peter Frankunas (283), and Oni Shurmans (284), has been training tirelessly to win a consecutive championship. Their goal for this year is to improve tremendously, and with their intense training, the team is already soaring to new heights. As Coach Tracy Freeland puts it, “I have high expectations as they are a great group of swimmers, but they meet those expectations. They show up to the Widener swimming pool and they push the limits every day.” Their commitment and dedication shine through, as the swim team has a perfect record – and they are not slowing down. Aside from their training, Abulgaziev notes that the team dynamic is a huge factor in winning the Public League championship in February. He states, “Even though it is an individual sport, the people on the team are some of the most supportive and nicest people I have ever worked with, and I am excited to work together and motivate the freshmen to keep the legacy going.” The swim team is nothing short of amazing, and their success is something to look forward to during their second championship season.
