This November, Central’s Science Olympiad Club kicked off its tournament season with its first competition: Rickards Science Olympiad Invitation. In the 2022-23 school year, Central’s Science Olympiad team won regionals, making it one of the first Philadelphia teams to make it to states. Unfortunately, the team was not able to advance to nationals; however, many individuals won medals for their events. This year’s Science Olympiad is led by the new cabinet members: President Daniel Lin (283), Vice President Kithya Borey (283), and team captains Bella Li (283), Yuchen Liu (283), and Salina Zhang (283). Together they hosted Zoom meetings discussing how to improve the tournament outcomes and optimize the club’s preparation for tournaments. The cabinet coordinated with the club’s amazing sponsors—Mr. Meinhart and Mr. Fitzgerald—to determine the best way to help club members. Some strategies include helping club members understand the rule book, creating placement exams for club members to take, and planning weekly meetings with UPenn students to prepare for competitions. From the hard work of cabinet members and sponsors, the club members rated the club highly in terms of enjoyment and fun. During the week of 11/6 to 11/10, team members competed in the Rickards SO Invitation. The Central community wishes good luck to everyone competing, and the club is always open to welcoming new members!
