Central’s Girls Varsity Volleyball: Consecutive Champions

Ava Meer (286)

Central High School’s girls varsity volleyball team took home the Public League Championship title for the second consecutive year and are District 12 champions!

Throughout three preseason scrimmages and thirteen regular-season games, their impressive season resulted in a record of 11-2, losing just seven sets all season. They only got hotter in the playoffs, not losing a single set in the first round. The Lancers advanced from a quarterfinal game against CAPA to a tough fight in the semifinals against Masterman, and lastly, their championship game against Palumbo.

The team’s incredible dynamic mesmerizes spectators. As Luke Meer (283) puts it, “They can’t be stopped!” After watching the team take their champion title, Lila McCloskey (286) claims that she is “just in awe.”

Following the PIAA championship game on November 1st, Liza Soboleva (283) received the Philadelphia Public League MVP award for an outstanding finals performance. Liza is #18 and the team’s setter, showing impressive skill and leadership this volleyball season.

Beating Academy at Palumbo on Wednesday November 2nd with a score of 3-0 during their final game, they showed excellent team work that lead them to victory. Congratulations to Central’s volleyball team for defending their District 12 champion title!
