Our academic life significantly changed in 2020 with the addition of student Chromebooks. We were required to transition into a completely different style of learning as technologies became the main resource used in academic classrooms.

For many students, this transition was hard. For the thousands of teachers that also had to transition, the process proves to be a challenge. All of us were born after the internet came to be, and especially for a sixty year old teacher, consistently working on computers can be a new experience.

Furthermore, the struggle to stay on top of schoolwork may be challenging as the majority of our work and social lives are online. For many, this could be considered heavily distracting as any website can be accessed.

Additionally, questions about socialization arise: What are students with poor internet access to do? What about students who lack a phone? Connecting with fellow peers is a necessity to having a social life.

As we near even more technological advancements, we watch as chalkboards get replaced with smartboards. In the midst of it all, ask yourself: Has technology succeeded us in the classrooms?
